STEEL

Walking down the stairs from the busy streets of Dallas and through the doors of STEEL, you are warmly welcomed into a dimly lit restaurant filled with contemporary Asian artwork, light wood tables, and green velvet booths. You will immediately notice the glassed in wine room that is filled to the top with bottles from their award-winning wine list as well as the open sushi bar and experienced staff.

I had the pleasure of dining at STEEL Restaurant and Lounge a few Wednesdays ago for their “Wasabi Wednesday” where they offer all sushi and sashimi at half the price! STEEL is a beautiful restaurant with surprisingly great specials every day of the week: Happy Hour, Wasabi Wednesdays, and Swirl Sunday.

Happy Hour: Monday-Friday 5-7pm $3 off drinks and $4 Appetizers and Rolls

“Wasabi Wednesdays” 5-7pm ALL Sushi and Sashimi is 1/2 priced! *Dine-in only* plus $12 Glasses Veuve Clicquot, $8 Glasses Rombauer Chardonnay, $3 Bottles of Sapporo

“Swirl Sunday” 5pm-9pm 1/2 price on all bottles of wine

We started the evening out with two of their popular cocktails: the Mangotini and the Pineapple-Chilitini. The fresh mango puree was shaken with Stoli vodka and cranberry then served in a martini glass with a large piece of fresh mango. The Pineapple-Chilitini is their own house-infused pineapple-fresno chili vodka served straight. It was smooth and definitely had a kick! If you enjoy infused vodka, they also offer a cucumber-infused Ketel One and a blackberry-infused vodka.

Our first dish we tried was the miso saki glazed Chilean Sea Bass. This was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever tasted. The texture seemed almost like lobster and the taste like butter! The Sea Bass is marinated in miso and sake then slowly roasted and glazed to buttery perfection. It was such a simple dish yet packed with flavor. I highly recommend ordering it. Next up was the High Rolller: a beautifully displayed crab and shrimp tempura filled roll covered in a mountain of fresh pieces of salmon, tuna, and pineapple. Again, another I highly recommend ordering.

STEEL’s happy hour menu has a large selection of share plates and rolls, but I think their Wasabi Wednesday is the best deal they offer since it includes all sushi and sashimi (and let’s face it, I always want the featured rolls and sashimi) at such a great value that is hard to beat! Be sure to check back soon as they are planning to offer a reverse happy hour very soon!
