6 Simple Home Organization Updates with Bed Bath & Beyond

In the spirit of getting a fresh start to the new year I have been doing my best to organize around the house. When there is so much that needs to be done, it can be a little overwhelming on where to even begin… I decided it would be best to take baby steps and attack one area at a time. I figured if I could tackle small projects every day, eventually everything would be checked off the list!

I went to a newly updated and remodeled Bed Bath & Beyond in Plano to pick up a few items to help me get organized. Per usual I got distracted and went home with some other things as well…

My Experience at the Store

Before I share the simple home organization updates I made, I wanted to tell you a little bit about my experience at the store! This Bed Bath & Beyond was by far the nicest one I’ve been to. It was renovated to have a much more open floor plan with wider aisles and had sections in it that I had never seen before…

First off they had a section very similar to what you might see in World Market (a sister company of theirs). This section is a very positive one in my opinion: the BEER and WINE section! I don’t know why but it made me very happy to know I could pick up a few things for the house AND a bottle of wine at the same time. I was also saved a few other stops because they had a cosmetics section and baby section! So not only did I purchase a few items for the house, I went home with a couple bottles of wine, pistachios for Ita (his favorite), wipes and lotion for Mila and a few makeup items I was out of.

I Bought a Duvet Cover!

Aside from the organizational products I bought (listed below), I was most excited to go home with a new duvet cover! The bedding section has samples of all of the different duvet cover options as well as a dedicated employee to help with any questions. I fell in love with this gorgeous velvet Wamsutta duvet and ordered it immediately in the store. It was 40% off so I knew I couldn’t pass it up! It comes in three other colors and you can shop it below.

But now for the organizational updates…

Here are a few affordable items I picked up and how I’m using them in the house!

Affordable and Simple Home Organization Updates

1. Over the Door Shoe Organizer for Mila

I have been in desperate need of an area to keep Mila’s shoes and bows and decided to use this over the door shoe organizer to store everything! I love that I can actually see her bows, shoes, socks, etc. and am not digging through a drawer unable to find what I was looking for like before. These are great space savers and you could use it to store so many different things.

2. Large Vacuum Ziploc bags

I had never seen these giant Ziploc bags before but they are amazing! I stuffed ALL of Mila’s clothes from newborn-12 months along with her blankets, shoes, basically everything. You seal the bag like you would a normal ziplock bag and then use a vacuum to suck the air out. It shrinks and makes it so much easier to store! The before and after is below…

3. Makeup Organizer

I normally keep my makeup in a bag in a drawer and once again, can never find what I’m looking for. I decided to get this clear makeup organizer so I could actually SEE my makeup. It has made getting ready so much easier and less stressful. I organized my makeup in the order I use it from left to right. So brushes are on the far left, then CC creams and tinted moisturizers, then foundations, then concealers, mascara and setting spray. Larger items like powders, bronzer and blush are in front or in a drawer. If you don’t already have a setup like this I definitely recommend it!

4. Tank Top Organizer

This little tank top organizer comes in a pack of 2 for only $9.99. I wear camisoles all the time and am guilty of hanging several on one hanger and get them all tangled together. I love this hanger because you can layer so many on “one” hanger and it saves so much space in your closet. This could be really good to hang swimsuits or other pieces too!

5. Shoe Rack

I got this shoe rack for Ita to use in our closet. He usually just throws his shoes in the closet so now he actually has a place for them! I watched a little bit of the Marie Kondo Tidying Up documentary on Netflix and am trying to take on the mindset that “everything has a place”. Slowly but surely implementing this throughout our house!

6. Christmas Tree Bag

Ok so by now you probably have put up your Christmas tree but as of two weeks ago, I hadn’t. I picked up a Christmas tree bag and am so glad I have this now to protect and store our tree. Otherwise I know Ita would have just stuffed it in the garage somewhere uncovered!
