A rare warm and sunny Sunday afternoon in Dallas a few weekends ago meant packed restaurant patios for brunch at all of the uptown hotspots. British Beverage Company (BBC) was no exception. This British-inspired pub is located in the Quadrangle off Routh in Uptown Dallas and drew in a very large crowd for their weekend brunch. The pub has many charming British touches including tufted leather seats and a classic red telephone booth and vintage taxicab outside the entrance. The space is huge as it has two full bars, two very large patios and a stage for live music. We of course sat outside because of the beautiful weather (and people watching). I liked the layout of the front patio as it had high and low seating and even some large booths which I found to be pretty cool and rare for a patio.
There was some music playing by the DJ who was set up inside next to the mimosa bar. Yes, I said mimosa bar. BBC has $0.99 mimosas during their brunch from 11am-4pm every Saturday and Sunday. You are given a glass half full of champagne (or half empty depending on your outlook at life) that you then take up to the mimosa bar to add your juice of choice. They have orange, pineapple, peach, cranberry, mango and passion fruit. I started to get creative after about my third glass and mixed a few together. I like the idea of being able to create your own mimosa but it got a little annoying after a while having to get up so often to walk inside. Maybe during the summer they’ll set up a mimosa bar on the patio for convenience?? We also tried their Bloody Mary’s that were delicious and a great deal during brunch hours.
As for food we had:
BBC Chicken and Waffles: A Panko breaded chicken fritter on a Boddingtons Belgium waffle topped with hazelnut butter and syrup- this is a different take on chicken and waffles as it is more similar to schnitzel than a piece of fried chicken breast but the hazelnut butter on the waffles was amazing.
BBC Welsh Rarebit Grilled Cheese: Smoked turkey, grilled tomatoes, caramelized onions, applewood bacon, and a blend of Red Dragon white cheddar, gouda, and bleu cheeses. Served open-faced on toasted sourdough- so so good. I love all cheese so I knew I would enjoy this one. I thought the portions were a little on the small side but the quality makes up for it.
The Big English Burger: 6 oz. ground chuck patty topped with a fried egg, bacon, crispy onion straws, and sharp cheddar cheese and served on a toasted bun- a fried egg makes everything better. Especially a fried egg on a burger.
One of the best things about BBC is their happy hour is 3pm-10pm Saturday and ALL DAY ON SUNDAY (11am-3am) so you can enjoy the great atmosphere of uptown without the high price tag. They offer $1 off draft beer and glasses of wine, $2.50 wells, and $3 select calls. I prefer Tito’s vodka and it just so happened to be one of their select calls. $3 for a Tito’s mixed drink at BBC where a bar down the street charges $9-10… trust me. Definitely some of the best priced happy hour specials in the area.
