Where has the time gone? I can’t believe I’m sitting here writing this officially in my THIRD TRIMESTER! As of today I am about 28 and a half weeks pregnant and have said goodbye to my second trimester. CRA-ZY! Although it flew by, a lot has happened in my second trimester. Here’s a bit of what’s been going on during this pregnancy journey of mine but if you have any specific questions or are curious about anything just leave me a comment and I’ll do my best to answer! Here we go…
SECOND TRIMESTER BUMPDATE
How Far Along? 28 weeks and 2 days (due date is October 16th!). According to my app, The Bump, my baby is the size of an eggplant (ha!).
How I’m Feeling: Good! The first trimester was pretty rough for me. I was nauseated all the time, tired, and threw up quite a bit. Once I got to around week 15 or 16 it was like a switch went off and I had tons of energy. It has been like that pretty much since then. Even when Ita and I went to California I swear he was the one wanting to take a nap in the afternoon and I was wired with energy to keep walking around and doing things. I find myself still having moments where I almost forget that I’m pregnant. I might get up too fast from my desk or out of bed and my body will be like, “woah, hang on a second there. You’re moving a little TOO fast”. I have noticed this last week it’s been a little harder to wake up in the morning. I’ve also noticed if I sit at my laptop too long my legs will be achy and I feel like I have to stand up really slow. I’m trying to do my best to get up every now and then to walk around so that doesn’t happen.
Cravings? Not really! I’m honestly pretty surprised (and slightly disappointed?). I naturally have such a sweet tooth and love to eat but if anything I feel like I’ve been healthier since becoming pregnant! Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally having my fair share of sweets but no weird cravings for pickles and ice cream just yet. My main cravings have been for watermelon. I can go through a package of the Trader Joe’s watermelon in like a day. The only other things I was eating on a regular basis during my second trimester was plain scrambled eggs with avocado toast for breakfast (I’d add “everything but the bagel” sesame seed seasoning from Trader Joe’s on top with a little olive oil – if you haven’t had it it’s amazing), Jason’s Deli turkey wraps (I had them heat the turkey just to be safe) and the salmon salad from Fish City.
Exercising? Kind of. I was doing pretty decent the majority of my second trimester but the last week or two I have felt so busy I haven’t been dedicating the time I should be to it. Throughout my second trimester I was doing the elliptical for 30 minutes a couple of times a week, walking and exercises at home like body squats, lunges, bench dips, etc. I’m making a point to get SOME sort of physical activity in (almost) every day because I really do feel like if I go a couple of days without, my body is actually in more pain. Every person and pregnancy is different and I know there are some girls who are beasts throughout their pregnancy and some who can barely do anything. Neither is wrong or right. You have to do what’s best for you and your baby and I highly recommend talking about these sorts of things with your doctor if you are pregnant. I think the most important thing is to listen to your body.
Any aches or pains? Unfortunately, yes. I suffer from some pretty bad back issues in general so it wasn’t that surprising when the shooting pains down my legs became more frequent. For the last month or two I’ve had constant pain in the center of my spine anytime I’m sitting. It seems so random to me but I’m planning on scheduling a prenatal massage soon to try to help. I’m also contemplating seeing my chiropractor (which I haven’t been to thus far in the pregnancy) so if you have any experience with seeing a chiropractor while pregnant let me know! Also my tailbone has been the worst! You’d think my big butt would provide some cushion but I swear it feels like my tailbone is all of a sudden paper-thin and could snap every time I sit down. I bought a physio ball to sit on while I work at home but it was too short so I need to go back and get a bigger one. I really think it will help with some of my issues!
Anything weird? Well, a lot of this pregnancy thing can be pretty weird. Your body is changing and you’re literally in charge of growing a human. But besides that, I feel like my eyesight has gotten worse. I’ve noticed I have a hard time reading things from certain distances that I never had issues with before. Hoping this goes away in a few months!
Fun Fact: At our sonogram last week they said our baby’s head is measuring 31 weeks (AKA BIG!). This definitely made us laugh since I have a big head and my dad’s side of the family is known for having physically big heads. So it was funny but then I started to think about it and realize her big (and growing) head is not the most ideal situation for me come delivery day if you know what I mean (ouch). Ok, trying not to think about that part…
Can you feel her kick? Yes! It’s not even so much kick as it is movement in general. It is the most amazing feeling. There is usually a point in the morning and late at night where she seems very active. I swear it feels like she flips over sometimes which is such a crazy feeling. It’s getting to the point now where you can see the movement from the outside. Sometimes I look down at my stomach and you can see it moving around or if she kicks it will jump! It’s been really exciting for Ita to feel and experience all of this too. He’s always grabbing my stomach or I’m putting his hand on my stomach to feel her. It doesn’t get old!
What Have You Bought So Far? Not much! Ita really wanted to wait but let’s just say I’ve snuck in a little outfit here and there… so far her wardrobe consists of lots of chambray and zero hot pink. I also picked up the cutest little pair of cream cable knit booties with a faux fur trim at T.J. Maxx! I couldn’t resist. They were too cute! It’s definitely becoming more and more difficult to resist buying little outfits! Little Goodall sent me the cutest little romper as a gift and I just about died. She’s not even here and I can’t handle the cuteness! If you have any favorite stores or boutiques to buy cute baby clothes let me know!
Have you registered or put together the nursery? Working on it. Ita was pretty firm on waiting until we got closer to my due date to do anything… now that I’m in my third trimester we are FINALLY starting to get some things done! I think he realized how fast time is flying by and that before we know it she’ll be here. We’re working on converting our guest room to a nursery and have started the registry process. Woo! More on both of those topics soon.
Have You Picked a Name? Not yet. I’m not sure we’ll have one before she’s born either. We have three names that we really like but can’t decide. It’s important to us that her name works here and in Israel (where Ita is from). That may sound odd but certain American names just sound weird in Israel and certain Israeli names sound ridiculous when pronounced by a typical American accent. I’m also half-Cuban which has always been a big part of who I am so I’d love her name to feel Spanish or honor that part of my family in some way. CLEARLY a lot to think about. Ita and I can both be pretty indecisive so we’re hoping we’ll “just know” once she’s here. 🙂
Ok I think I’ve rambled on long enough. Let me know if you have any specific questions and as always if you have any advice please feel free to leave me a comment! I really do welcome any and all advice and love hearing from you! Oh and this dress is part of the big Nordstrom Sale going on and is currently under $50! There is still so much on sale so I went ahead and included some baby items I have my eye on, too! See other posts from the Nordstrom Sale HERE!
Thanks for reading my second trimester bumpdate! There will be another new post tomorrow and Friday!
