Chic at Every Age: White Tweed Jacket + our Hill Country Trip Experience

Hi! So I actually had a different post written ready to go about how we were headed to the Hill Country for a couple of nights to disconnect and have a more outdoorsy kind of getaway. A lot has happened since then and long story short we’re not in the Hill Country anymore lol. But if you are curious as to what happened, here is the not so short story…

The Last 24 Hours…

We left Dallas yesterday afternoon to head to Kingsbury where we were going to stay in one of these incredible tents that is basically a house with a tent roof out in the middle of nowhere. We have been wanting to stay here for a year now and finally found a few days that worked for us to get away. This place is on 100 acres near the river, beaches, a pecan orchard and gorgeous open land. There isn’t wifi (literally did not have cell phone service and couldn’t watch TV) but the stars at night were unbelievable.

I shared on stories a couple of videos but you can see the incredible place HERE. Every inch of it is photo worthy and it seemed like the perfect place to escape and have some good quality family time with Mila. When we arrived we realized just how out in nature we were since there were spiders and huge webs EVERYWHERE. This honestly comes with the territory of staying in a place that is out near the river under so many trees and wildflowers. I’m sure it wouldn’t bother a lot of people but you definitely had to pay attention every step you took on the patio and front deck.

We bought a bunch of food to cook since the place had a kitchenette and a Green Egg. When Ita went outside to grill there was a huge snake by the grill that didn’t want to leave so he ended up going to another Green Egg at the tent next door that no one was staying in. We couldn’t stop laughing about how this was going to be an experience to remember and definitely getting us out of our comfort zones. About 30 minutes later Ita comes back telling me a raccoon came up to him trying to take the food from the grill lol let me remind you Ita grew up in Israel… he is not used to any of this stuff so a raccoon is basically the equivalent of a cougar walking up to him. I could not stop laughing and told him he had to go back and get our food (I was hungry y’all). I had set out some appetizers on the table outside and before I knew it the raccoon was walking up the steps towards me! I think they are so cute but let’s be real the raccoon could have rabies and didn’t seem to be scared of me so I threw a cracker at him and ran inside. Again, dying laughing because the raccoon’s little eyes were peeking above the deck just waiting to go back and Ita would not go outside to get our food still. I ran out to bring the appetizers back in and once the raccoon realized there was nothing there he left. I FINALLY convince Ita to go back to the other grill and by the time he came back the raccoon was waiting for him at the stairs to our tent. Y’all. I can’t make this up. He was so freaked out and me being the awful person I am could not stop laughing. He ended up scaring it away and running inside with the food (thank goodness).

About an hour later all is fine and we’re getting ready for bed. Mila is asleep in her Pack N’ Play and as I’m about to turn off the bathroom light I hear Ita hitting something with his shoe… I’m a tough person but not a fan of bugs. So immediately I’m like, “oh my gosh what, was it a spider? cockroach??” No… it was a SCORPION! A scorpion. And not a baby one… this one was big and had a thick long tail which is not a good sign. I am sure some people might have shrugged this off and gone to bed but I personally knew I would not sleep at night knowing another one could be in the room and harm my baby. Again, this was not a little scorpion… this was one that if heaven forbid had crawled into Mila’s pack n’ play could have seriously harmed her. And what scares me the most is it could’ve happened while we were sleeping and not been able to react in time. I don’t mean to make things so serious all of a sudden but the reality is the situation did become very serious and we decided to leave. Ita wanted to drive home (it was midnight) but I convinced him we should stay in Austin to get a decent night’s sleep.

SO. Yea. A pretty eventful night. But we’re here in Austin now and while we’re having a slightly different trip than planned, we’re still having a blast and making the most of it. After all we love Austin so it didn’t take too much convincing to stay here a couple of nights instead. 🙂 While our trip to that resort didn’t end how we’d hoped, I still think it is a beautiful place where you could have a great weekend!

By the way I know I pretty much spoke ZERO about these white tweed jackets me and the Chic girls are styling but had to share our story! Hope you have a great weekend!

Thanks for reading!
