Cuban Traditions + Holiday Style with Express

The temperatures finally dropped in Dallas over the weekend and it officially got me in the holiday spirit! One of my favorite parts about this time of year is celebrating Christmas Eve at my parents house with a traditional Cuban meal. My mom is from Cuba and ever since I can remember we would go to her Aunt’s house for the most fabulous Christmas Eve party full of our Cuban relatives dressed to the nines. There was incredible food, music, the tallest Christmas tree I’ve ever seen and a huge house full of outgoing Cubans laughing (and usually dancing) the night away. I could barely speak Spanish and I’ll never forget how everyone would come up to me squeezing my cheeks and talking a million miles a second assuming I knew what they were saying. Even at a young age I knew just to smile big and say, “gracias”…

This night was always the most dressed up our family would get every year and my mom always had me in the nicest new dress with a matching hat and little purse. I have such vivid memories of those parties and how truly glamorous they were. I can only imagine what it was like when they celebrated in Cuba!

Fast forward several years and my mom began hosting her own Cuban feast for our family. She prepares everything from the black beans and rice to the yucca, plantains, tostones, mango mousse… the list goes on. My uncle prepares the pork and my dad is in charge of the coffee. The funny thing is my dad is not Cuban but every Cuban relative in our family claims he makes the best cup of Cuban coffee they’ve ever had! He even started making my personal favorite version of Cuban coffee that he coined the “Cubaccino” (my dad’s funny like that).

I usually bring the cocktails and dessert (you may remember this Christmas Cocktail Recipe and this incredible Lemon Pound Cake Recipe), but one thing is for sure, we still bring the fashion. I told you I would be sharing multiple holiday party appropriate looks over the next few weeks and this black lace jumpsuit from Express might just be my favorite. The delicate long sleeves and the mock neck cut are so chic. I love that this jumpsuit shows a hint of skin with the lace bodice while still feeling covered up and classic. This jumpsuit is such a statement maker on its own that you barely have to accessorize. I opted for these beautiful triangle drop earrings and my favorite pair of strappy sandals under $70 (the heel is thick making them actually comfortable to wear to parties!). The pants of the jumpsuit hit perfectly at the waist creating an elongating and lean silhouette. This jumpsuit is perfect for any holiday parties you have coming up and it is definitely one I will be wearing again and again. When you find a piece this good that makes you feel effortlessly beautiful and confident, you want to wear it over and over again.
