A DIY Hat Wall seems to be all the rage the last year or two. Whether it be on Instagram or Pinterest, you’ve probably seen some creative ways to hang your hats on the wall. As an avid hat wearer myself, it’s probably no surprise to you I have my own DIY hat wall in our master bedroom that not only makes it easy to grab the hat I want and go, but looks cute too!
I get asked on Instagram “where did you buy your hat holder” pretty much anytime I post a picture or story with it in it, so I figured it was about time I showed you how easy it is to make your own DIY Hat Wall!
One of the things I love about a DIY Hat Wall is how creative you can get with it. I was working with a smaller space in our bedroom that I knew a line of hats would fit perfectly in. But if you have a larger area to fill, you could spread them out more or even have a few scattered above a dresser. You can find a lot of inspiration on Pinterest to find the design that will work best for your space, but here is how I created my simple DIY Hat Wall!
DIY HAT WALL
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- a piece of ribbon, thin rope or twine/burlap ribbon
- A nail
- Hammer
- Clips/Clothes pins
DIRECTIONS: Measure length of area you want to hang hats and cut piece of ribbon to that length with a few inches extra to tie a knot (you can always trim the bottom if needed). Hammer a nail into the wall of where the top of your first hat will hang. You could also use a command hook if you don’t want to put a hole in your wall. Double knot your piece of ribbon or string around the nail. Hang your first hat on top of the nail then use clothes pins to clip on remaining hats to fill your space. That’s it!
It helps to use a piece of ribbon or string that’s not slick. It makes it easier for the clothes pin to grip the ribbon and hold the hat in place.
This DIY Hat Wall can seriously be created with items you probably already have sitting in your home! I’m ordering some new clothes pins myself since I used random clips and paper clips I had at home. I personally love the look of not having the ribbon there but didn’t want to put a bunch of holes in our wall with multiple nails. I think in our next house I’ll experiment more and try using command hooks. If you go that route let me know how it turns out!
