Last night my husband and I headed downtown to attend a Dallas Startup Week event. If you haven’t heard, Startup Week is a 5 day conference all about entrepreneurship held throughout cities in the United States. Dallas was one of the lucky chosen ones to host and is clearly making an impact in the tech and startup scene with no signs of slowing down. To prepare ourselves for an evening that was sure to fill our minds with inspiration, we decided to stop by Campisi’s first to fill our stomachs with some pizza.
When I was little I would go to the original Campisi’s with my family quite often. We ordered the same things every time. Crab claws, pizza, and manicotti. It had been several years since I had been there so when I saw their downtown Dallas location offered a happy hour, I knew I had to check it out.
We started with a glass of $4 Chianti and $4 Chardonnay then ordered an assortment of items from their happy hour menu (all food is $5). The Chopped Salad was made up of salami, provolone, black and green olives, tomatoes, artichoke hearts, tossed with lettuce and italian dressing and it was great! I also loved the Artichoke Hearts that were baked with homemade bread crumbs in a special butter sauce. I was not a fan of the Toasted Ravioli and the Meatballs came out COLD. The presentation of them was beautiful so you can imagine the disappointment when you bite into one and it is literally cold like it had been sitting in a refrigerator… not cool (well technically it was cool but you get the point)! Luckily the pizza was just as good as I remembered. It is similar to i Fratelli’s in the sense that it is a rectangular shaped, thin crust pizza but I actually prefer Campisi’s sauce. The small cheese pizzas are only $5 during happy hour and if you want to add toppings they will cost you $1 each. If you’re in downtown and craving pizza, I would definitely make a trip in for happy hour.
Happy hour runs from 3pm-6pm Monday-Friday offering $4 glasses of wine, bellinis, margaritas, domestic beers and wells. There are several food choices all for only $5. Small cheese pizza, artichoke hearts, toasted ravioli, chopped salad, calamari, meatballs, and grilled sausage and peppers. This location is at 1520 Elm St., Suite 111 in downtown Dallas.
