Hopdoddy’s is not your typical hamburger joint. This burger bar offers all-natural ingredients, hormone and antibiotic free black angus beef, bakes their buns from scratch and even cuts their own kennebec fries. They offer only craft drafts from local, small batch, artisanal brewers and their bar is stocked with local and organic spirits. Even their name isn’t typical. What does “hopdoddy” even mean? Well “hop” stands for the locally crafted beer and “doddy” is the nickname given to the native cows of Aberdeen. Pretty clever, right? I have been a fan of Hopdoddy’s since I tried it in Austin a few years ago so I was very happy when they started opening them up here in Dallas. Today’s post features the McKinney Avenue location and their “Hoppy Hour” menu.
The “Hoppy Hour” menu offers $4 Classic Frozen Margaritas and $4 Craft Drafts along with $2 off all burgers. I had the Revolver Blood & Honey and the Llano Poblano and my husband tried their Classic Frozen Margarita and the Magic Shroom. Both burgers were outstanding. The seared poblanos with the bacon and chipotle mayo on the Llano Poblano create such a great flavor while the basil pesto, goat cheese, and mushrooms on the Magic Shroom provide a unique and more gourmet style burger experience. I have tried a handful of the burgers on this menu and they are all delicious. I definitely recommend the challah style bread for your burger (holla!) and getting some of the many dipping sauces they offer at the front (chipotle ketchup and honey mustard). Not a meat eater? The Ahi Tuna Burger is great and their salad options look delicious! One thing you cannot miss out on is their fries. The green chile queso has great flavor but the Parmesan Truffle Fries with Truffle Aioli is where it’s at!
My only issue was the beer and margarita were not filled to the top. Not a big deal but it is a bit of a pet peeve of mine if a drink is noticeably not filled. Overall my experience was great and it was the perfect place to start our evening before heading out to the Oddball Comedy Festival in Dallas to laugh until our stomachs hurt. Louis C.K., Sarah Silverman, Jeff Ross, Whitney Cummings, Hannibal Buress, Marc Maron, and more took the stage in front of 20,000 people that night. Here is a photo from our seats…
Hoppy Hour is Monday-Friday 4pm-7pm and 9pm-close $4 Classic Frozen Margaritas and all Craft Drafts and $2 off All Burgers McKinney Ave Location 3227 Mckinney Ave. #102 Free Garage Parking!
