Whether you can believe it or not, belt bags are IN and one of the most popular trends from New York Fashion Week this season. While I decided not to attend NYFW this year, you better believe I was stalking Vogue and countless other bloggers on Instagram that were there to see all the action. Attending a fashion show is amazing but I also find so much inspiration from the actual street style you see while you’re there. You witness such a variety of styles from the most outrageous ensembles to the simplest of looks. One accessory I saw over and over again was the belt bag. At first glance this may be an intimidating trend to try, but it’s really pretty foolproof and an accessory you can wear in your everyday life! How To Style a Belt Bag
As you can see in the photos I am wearing a classic plaid blazer (another very popular piece for fall) and I’m wearing the belt bag cinched around my waist. I think this is such a classic look and an easy way to try this hot trend. I opted for a bright, beautiful red with my bag but a black or cream colored bag would be gorgeous as well!
The most important thing to remember when styling a belt bag is to wear it around the smallest part of your waist. Hanging it around the widest part of your hips may look ok on a few people but for the majority of us, the waist is where it’s at.
You also want to make sure to have the bag slightly off center. You don’t want it smack dab in the middle of your stomach like a belt buckle. Wear it a couple of inches to the left or the right and it will look great. If you’re not a fan of blazers, a belt bag around a dress or high waisted pair of jeans and a top would also look so cute!
But where to shop for a belt bag?
When it comes to trying a new fashion trend, I usually try to find an affordable option (I mean duh, when am I not trying to find a good deal…). The last few months I have been checking eBay’s website more frequently when I’m on the hunt for something in particular. I used to think eBay was only a place to sell items or buy used clothes but I recently learned that 81% of all merchandise sold on eBay is NEW!
I find it is best to check eBay anytime you’re on the hunt for a specific item (although I do check out their deals page quite a bit too). For example, my Quay sunglasses that I wear all the time are available on eBay for $10 cheaper than any other store. They are the EXACT same sunglasses – no defects or anything! There are a few steps I take when shopping on eBay that I recommend following below:
- Be specific when searching for an item (I.e. “Red Quilted Belt Bag” as opposed to just “belt bag”)
- Once you search for an item, look to the far left of the screen and click “SEE ALL” in any section. This will pull up all of the different categories you can filter by. This is especially important when shopping for clothes.
- Categories I filter by are: Size, Condition (I prefer “New with Tags”), Buying Format (I always check “Buy It Now”) and then at the very bottom you can click “Show Only” and I check “Free Returns”
You will see there are several ways to filter but the ones I mentioned above are the most important to me and I think the most helpful when on the hunt for what you want!
