J. Macklin’s Grill Coppell

Last weekend my husband and I went to J. Macklin’s Grill in Coppell for Happy Hour. I have been there a handful of times for lunch and have loved everything I’ve eaten there. They have a great selection of freshly cooked food but unfortunately there are no food options included during happy hour. Luckily most of their food menu is reasonably priced if you want to share a few appetizers or order an entree.

J Macklins Coppell

We started off our Happy Hour adventure on the patio with a Moscow Mule and Dos XX “Iceberg” Rita (they pour the bottle of Dos XX over the frozen margarita). Both were refreshing, delicious, and by the end of the drink it was obvious they do not skimp on the alcohol. A+! When we were first seated by the hostess we were told the Moscow Mule (along with all other libations) would be $1 off and the Iceberg Rita would be $5. HEADS UP! When I got to talking to our waitress at the end of our meal she informed us neither were true. So it looks like all of the tasty libations on their drink menu are NOT part of happy hour (they’re $8) and only REGULAR margaritas are $5 (Iceberg Rita is $6.50).

J Macklins Hip Chips Appetizer Hip Chips Appetizer

As for the food, it was all fantastic. I am in love with their “Hip Chips”. They make their own chips and hit them with Tabasco, lime, sea salt, and provide a side of habanero ketchup. For only $5 you HAVE to get an order of them when you go. The habanero ketchup alone is worth it.

Chicken Tenders J Macklins Strawberry and Goat Cheese Salad

We also ordered the State Club Chicken Tenders ($6.50) that were clearly freshly made and came with honey mustard and hickory BBQ sauce. Our order came with four tenders that were hot out of the fryer and were mouth-watering good. We were really hungry so we both ordered an entree. I got my favorite Strawberry & Goat Salad that is made up of almond-crusted goat cheese, strawberries, and pine nuts on top of a bed of baby greens with a Balsamic-Dijon vinaigrette ($8.50).

Hickory BBQ Brisket Sandwich

My husband went for the Slow Roasted Brisket Sandwich that has tobacco onions, pickle chips, and hickory BBQ sauce with a side of fries ($11). If you don’t want fries they offer a poblano slaw or house salad. The sandwich had a very tasty BBQ sauce and juicy meat. But what the heck are tobacco onions you ask? They are essentially fried onions seasoned with paprika and cayenne pepper giving them a “tobacco” look and a nice kick of flavor. Again, you can’t go wrong with the food here.
