It seems as though the older I get, the darker my hair gets. When I was a little girl I had all of these golden, natural highlights that would get even brighter in the summertime, but now that I’m creeping into my late twenties, those natural highlights seem to be no more. *insert major sad face* I was always one to pride myself in not touching my hair. No dye. No highlights. No bleaching… so when I finally decided I did want to incorporate some color into my hair, it was crucial to me that it looked natural and more importantly, that I trusted the person doing it.
Meet John.
John is a hairstylist at Blow Salon in Dallas that I have been using for a few years now and I feel so lucky I found him! If you live in the Dallas area and are looking for a new hairstylist, HE IS YOUR GUY! John uses a balayage technique on my hair when I get highlights and I love it. If you’re not familiar with balayage it essentially means he is painting my hair to create a more sun-kissed, natural color (balayage is literally the French word meaning to sweep or to paint) as opposed to blunt streaks of highlights starting at the roots. Not only does it look beautiful when executed properly but because of how it is applied it is low maintenance meaning you don’t have to color your hair every month and you’ll have overall healthier hair! It’s a win-win, guys.
Whether you’re looking for a simple cut and color or something drastic like chopping it all off, I recommend setting up an appointment with John. He did my version of “chopping off” my hair last year (okay so it was shoulder length, it was drastic for me) and made me feel very comfortable about the whole process and made sure not to go too short in case I had any regrets. It’s the little things like this that you really appreciate about a good hairstylist.
Not only is John an extremely talented Dallas hairstylist, he also runs a blog called, “Queer in the Kitchen” and is an instructor at BEYOND! It’s pretty much inevitable we end up talking about food and how bad I need to work out every time I get a hair cut…
Life is too short to have boring hair”
