Mother’s Day Dinner: Macarons and the Best Pizza in DFW

For Mother’s Day this year I knew I wanted to take my mom out for a good meal and buy her macarons (one of her favorite things in this world). I found a place in Dallas that is known for having some of the best macarons in town called Creme de la Cookie. The macarons are made fresh every day with at least a handful of flavors to choose from like raspberry, pistachio, strawberry, etc. Anyone who has bought macarons before knows they are not the cheapest dessert around due to the amount of work and experience that goes into making these little bites of heaven. I found Creme de la Cookie was reasonably priced at $1.75 per macaron or $20.00 per dozen. They run out fast so I recommend calling ahead to place an order or getting there before noon!

Now that I had the macarons covered, I needed to find a place for dinner. While searching for restaurants in the area I stumbled upon Cavalli Pizza. Cavalli Pizza had been ranked #1 Pizza in Dallas and had endless comments on sites like Yelp claiming it was indeed, the best pizza in DFW. Once I realized it was only 5 minutes from my house, I knew I had to check it out.

We went to the location in Irving that is a “quick serve” type of restaurant where you order your food at the counter and they bring it to your table. The restaurant is also BYOB. From the moment my parents and I walked in, we had exceptional service. All of the staff was friendly and accommodating, especially the manager who brought us complimentary samples of bruschetta and surprised us with tiramisu and a cannoli for dessert! We ordered a large Irving salad (split onto 3 plates), Focaccia Rustica, Arancini, and a Margherita pizza with Kalamata Olives and the Diavola Pizza.

Every bite of everything we ate was delicious. I had never heard of nor tried Arancini before but now I think I have to order it every time I eat at Cavalli’s. The crust on the pizza was perfect as it stayed crusty and not soggy like many other pizzas I’ve had. The food was so fresh and clearly made by people who are passionate about what they do. Cavalli Pizza was one of the top dining experiences I have ever had and I cannot wait to go back!
