Oxblood. Burgundy. Wine. Bordeaux. Maroon. Dark red…
Can anyone really tell the difference between these colors? Is there a difference between these colors? While I am sure the answer to that is yes there is a difference (one may have more hints of brown, another more hints of blue), it is not always obvious to the naked eye what exact color it is you’re looking at. So call it what you please (I prefer oxblood- it has an edge to it), this dark shade of red is always in for fall.
Several months ago I shared an Olivia Palermo inspired “look for less” by recreating an outfit she wore to a Valentino Haute Couture show in Paris. After shooting today’s look, I came across a picture of her (again at Paris fashion week) wearing almost an identical outfit! Now before we call Fashion Police and go head to head in “B!tch Stole My Look!” (R.I.P. Joan Rivers), let me make it clear that while this is the “same look”, it is not the same price tag. Olivia’s Nina Ricci burgundy (darn it! I guess we’ll call it burgundy…) turtleneck sweater and pencil skirt ensemble is easily over $2,000. And mine? Under $50. And that includes the shoes! I found this coordinating sweater and skirt at Forever 21 for under $24! Just thinking about how affordable these pieces are makes me want to go back and get them in another color! If you’re a fan of monochromatic looks like I am, I recommend wearing pieces with different fabrics in the same color scheme to add some texture and depth to your look. You can also spice it up with accessories like carrying a leopard print bag or wearing a statement necklace like Olivia did.

I can’t tell them apart sometimes either, but anything in that hue family is a beautiful color! I especially love when it is paired w/ nude footwear! Great look! http://hideorgochic.wordpress.com
Thank you! I couldn’t agree more. I am on the hunt for a great pair of nude pumps as we speak! 🙂

I know this is an older post but would you mind telling me how the sizing was on the forever 21 leather skirt? I tracked it down in a small and medium on ebay and I’m not sure which one to get – LOVE, LOVE this look! Apparently the waist on a small is 25″ – did it seem to run small to you?
Hi Kellie! I am wearing a size medium. The small was too small for me in the thigh/butt region. 🙂 I felt more comfortable in the medium. The material definitely has stretch so that helps. You should totally get it though!!
