It’s beginning to feel a lot like summer here in Dallas! Spending a week in Mexico definitely got me in the summer spirit and excited to plan even more trips over the next few months. Whether you’re jetting across the globe or road-tripping it this summer, packing can sometimes be a difficult task. If you ask my husband, he will tell you that I am a serial over-packer… you can never have too many options, right?! Unfortunately, the answer is you can have too many options. I have learned you can actually invite stress by throwing too much in your suitcase and narrowing down a handful of outfit options before packing is the way to go. With Memorial Day around the corner and many of you taking off on summer vacations soon, I thought this would be a great time to provide you with a little summer packing inspiration!
I have teamed up with Target to help you pack light and right no matter where you are headed this summer! From clothing and shoes to skincare and sun protection, you will find a few of my go-to outfits for a long weekend away that will cover a range of occasions without overflowing your suitcase. My husband and I are hoping to get away to Austin next weekend for Memorial Day weekend so my packing list consists of chambray, light dresses, comfortable shoes, and totes!
Anytime we visit Austin we always end up walking everywhere and finding the cutest shops and boutiques. This Xhilaration dress with crochet detailing is perfect to throw on for a day of outdoor shopping and this tan and aqua Merona straw tote is great for holding all of the knick-knacks you purchase throughout the day!

It wouldn’t be Memorial Day weekend without a day at the lake (or at least the pool). I love this chambray romper by Mossimo that I can easily throw on over my swimsuit (you know I love Target swimsuits). It is such a cute and comfortable romper that you could wear casually to the pool or even dress up with some heels at night (it also comes in this adorable long sleeve version and this adorable dress version). How cute are these DV black and white slides?! I adore the print and faux pony hair! This straw tote will come in handy again for not only holding my sunscreen but treats and toys for Leo (he is so spoiled)!
 Â
One of the things I love most about traveling to Austin is the number of options you have to do things outdoors. There are several wineries you can visit in the hill country and numerous parks throughout the city perfect for having a little sunset picnic. This chevron structured tote by Merona is not only adorable but it is also sturdy enough to carry your blanket, food and cold beverages for your picnic! This Who What Wear rust-colored tank has become one of my favorites and these wide-leg chambray pants are everything! The waistband is elastic and the pants are flowy making walking around or sitting on the ground perfectly comfortable. They truly might be my new favorite pants.
 Â
Whether I’m going to Mexico for a week or Austin for a weekend, I always take a good tote or two with me. I love both totes in today’s post because not only are they adorable, they’re also perfect for carrying all of my pool/lake essentials. When I’m headed for a day of lying in the sun, I typically carry a magazine, a book (currently reading Amy Poehler’s “Yes Please”), sunscreen, headphones, a cute towel, and plenty of snacks and refreshments!
Whenever we go out in Austin it is inevitable we will be walking around quite a bit. These black lace-up gladiator sandals are trendy, comfortable and versatile. The sandals combined with the black straw fedora complement this simple off-the-shoulder dress (obsessed with this one, too!) and are two accessories you can easily mix and match with other pieces in your suitcase.

When it comes to your skincare routine, keep it light. Sunscreen is important year round but it is especially important to slather it on when you’re out and about on your trip. No matter how cute your outfit is, a bad sunburn will ruin it. I always use a face moisturizer with at least SPF 15 and recently discovered a few different CC creams, like La Roche Posay, that are SPF 30, plus give coverage and reduce redness! I prefer not to wear a lot of makeup during summer trips so CC cream that does double duty is a lifesaver. When I do go out at night, I love using NYX’s illuminating primer before I put on my makeup because it gives me a little glow and helps my makeup go on even and stay on longer! This stuff worked wonders for me while I was in Mexico!
I could essentially fit all of the pieces and products from these looks into my structured chevron tote, proving it is possible to pack light and still have plenty of fashionable options! I hope these outfits provided you with a little packing inspiration for your upcoming summer trips and please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!
