Well, I’m back in Dallas safe and sound and I’m happy to say my first New York Fashion Week experience was a success! I had the best time running around New York and honestly didn’t want it to end. Everyone talks about how exhausting it is (it really is) but I think I had such an adrenaline rush every day I didn’t notice. There is something about being in New York City that is so exhilarating and combining that with the madness of Fashion Week made it that much more exciting. It wasn’t until I got to the airport to fly back to Dallas that it all kind of hit me and I realized how exhausted I was. I jam-packed my schedule because I wanted to make the most of my time there. Unfortunate for the foodie in me, that meant no time for going out to eat at awesome New York spots every day. Most days it was grab a slice of pizza late at night after realizing you went the entire day without eating (there’s nothing like NY pizza though, yum!). If I go to Fashion Week next year, I will definitely allow myself more time to go out to dinner and enjoy the city more.
So what did I do the whole time I was there? Well, a lot. But it was mainly a combination of fashion shows, meetings, and events. Here’s a look at my first two days…
Night 1
Arrived in NY Thursday night and went straight to the hotel to drop off my stuff and head to meet up with some girlfriends at a fashion show after party. My first night in New York I shared a room with Dede from Dress Up Buttercup who is the absolute sweetest! We only knew each other through emails and basically the online blogger community but ended up getting along so well and had the best time together. I love when I have the opportunity to meet other bloggers and that happened A LOT this past week.
Day 2
Friday was dedicated to meetings. This blog has allowed me to create business relationships with some pretty awesome brands and people who I’ve only corresponded with through email. So it was important to me to take the time to actually put a face with a name as well as meet new brands all together. I started my morning at the cutest cafe called Two Hands NYC. I highly recommend popping in there for a coffee and acai bowl (although everything else looked delicious as well).
After that meeting I walked over to the World of McIntosh Townhouse where a PR firm was holding their showroom. This might be the most incredible space I’ve ever been in (not exaggerating). The WOM Townhouse is a 12,000 square foot, 5-story space that allegedly was the home of Heidi Klum and a Beyonce video was shot there… yeah. Needless to say I spent a couple of hours there and I’ll be sharing some of the pieces I picked up in some upcoming blog posts.
After the showroom I grabbed an Uber and headed to the Baublebar headquarters. If you’ve seen the movie The Intern with Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro, it was just like that. An open workspace, the owners and chief officers sharing desks with lower level employees. I loved it. I had the chance to see some of their new designs and upcoming celebrity collaborations and let me tell you, they are really, really cute. I left with the most gorgeous statement necklace that I’ll be pairing with casual tees and sweatshirts on the regular. If you’re not familiar with Baublebar, take a look at their site here. It’s filled with beautiful, on-trend jewelry at a great price point. Side note: this is where I got to try Momofuku Milk Bar birthday cake truffles and they were everything you could imagine and more. So good.
Next up was a meeting with the lovely ladies of Gigi New York at their pop-up shop in the Meatpacking District. So many beautifully made bags and I learned they even have a home section with some pretty amazing pieces coming out soon. I ran into a few blogger friends and ended up staying for a while. I decided to miss a couple of the fashion shows I intended on going to since the day got away from me. I definitely was not used to it taking 30 minutes to go 1.5 miles in a cab…
Once I got back to my room I slipped into the most beautiful BCBG Max Azria dress that I got for 80% OFF! Yes, amazing deals like this exist. You just have to keep an eye out for them! It was dark by the time I had the chance to snap a photo wearing it so I’ll be sure to post some better shots of it in the near future. That night I attended the Lulu’s Blogger Party and my first New York Fashion Week runway show ever, Tadashi Shoji. I loved the show and thought the pieces were so beautiful! If you’re curious what the show was like, you can view it here!
Stay tuned for details on the rest of my New York Fashion Week trip as it was packed with a lot more shows and parties! Outfit details from all of the above looks are linked below!
