Today I am sharing an outfit perfect for a casual Thanksgiving along with a few Thanksgiving Day tips. I love to dress up but when it comes to Thanksgiving, I always make sure my outfit is something that is comfortable and forgiving (meaning accommodate my food baby). This Turkey Day Top from Katydid is great because it is functional AND fashionable. (You may remember these beautiful shorts or this adorable top from Katydid I shared this summer. I love the soft fabric and dolman sleeves of this Thanksgiving inspired top because 1. its loose fitting (a requirement for Thanksgiving attire) and 2. when you fall asleep on the couch after eating you won’t be uncomfortable.
Another Thanksgiving attire must is (in the words of Joey from Friends) “wear pants that have give”. Today is not the day to wear your skinny jeans or skin-tight dress. Unless you want to embarrassingly undo the top button of your pants after dinner, go for something simple like a pair of leggings. I love this pair I bought from T.J. Maxx because they are lined with fleece and have a little extra stretch in them! I added a few layers to this outfit that I can easily take off because again, you need your outfit to be functional! It may be freezing outside but once you are in the kitchen cooking up a storm you will not want a thick sweater on. I layered a button down shirt, chunky cardigan, and scarf over my top and leggings so I can be sure to stay comfortable throughout the day no matter the temperature. I chose to throw on a pair of heels to dress up the outfit a little but you can easily ditch the heels and throw on a pair of flat boots (also shown) to be even more comfortable in your Turkey Day attire.
If you are going to be helping in the kitchen or preparing your own Thanksgiving meal, I would recommend wearing your hair pulled back. You don’t want your hair getting in the way while cooking and no one wants to find a piece of hair in their food! Flipping through pages of your recipe book? Don’t be like Rachel from Friends and accidentally combine two recipes into one (beef does not go in a trifle!).
But most importantly, don’t lose site of what this day is about. BEING THANKFUL. It’s easy to get stressed out over petty things like the turkey not being done in time, not having enough seats for the amount of people coming over, people stuffing their faces so they can be done before the Cowboy game starts or get to a Black Friday sale… none of those things really matter. Make an effort to take the time to truly give thanks for the important things in life. For me, I am thankful I get to spend this holiday with my husband and family under one roof. I am blessed to have each and every one of them in my life. Oh, and this little guy who came into our lives one month ago today… I already can’t imagine my life without him! 🙂
