Bread Winners Happy Hour

Bread Winners has always been a popular restaurant for Uptown brunching. They have a great selection of “Hangover Elixirs” and a sizable list of Benedicts, French Toast, Pancakes & Waffles, and Scrambles to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. While my brother was in town we decided to check out the happy hour specials at their Northpark location before doing a little retail therapy.

The spot Bread Winners is located in is great. You can sit on the patio facing the garden almost forgetting you are in a mall and gaze at the perfectly lit display of merchandise that fills the floor to ceiling window of Louis Vuitton. (Just because I don’t want to spend $4,750 on a handbag doesn’t mean I can’t look right?)

We began our afternoon with the Texas Bluebonnet Mojito and Mango Fizz. My husband joined us and ordered their Stoli Moscow Mule but we were informed they did not have the ingredients in the bar to make it… he then ordered their BW’s Bloody Mary. It looked appetizing but all of us agreed it did not taste good. So much that my husband did not drink it and ordered their Top Shelf Margarita that was much better (if you are craving a Bloody Mary, I hear their Bloody Diablo is better). I enjoyed the Mojito but the Mango Fizz was my favorite. Fresh mango puree and a split of Prosecco? Yes, please.

The hummus and pita was great and a good bang for your buck (only $3.50 during happy hour!). I would pass on the Smoked Gouda Fondue. I was expecting something hot and gooey but it was more like a basic cheese dip. Instead go with the Bourbon Street Beer Companion for a few dollars more where you get beer cheddar, brie, gorgonzola, genoa salami, grapes, local honey, and roasted almonds, with tuscan bread and crackers. I am not sure if this was because it was happy hour or because they were out, but we were served peanuts instead of roasted almonds. Lastly, the flatbread was good and clearly made with fresh ingredients but I prefer the flatbreads here.

Sure you can grab fast food upstairs in the food court, but for these prices you may as well take a seat on the patio and enjoy the view.
