A LITTLE BACK STORY ON MACKENZIE-CHILDS

Before we talk tablescape and recipes I want to give you a little backstory on my experience with MacKenzie-Childs. If you’re not familiar with them, MacKenzie-Childs creates beautiful, original tableware, furniture and home and garden accessories. You’ve probably seen their classic tea kettles  or Courtly Check design they’re so known for.

Last fall I had the opportunity to spend a full day with some of their team and a few other local bloggers and learned SO MUCH about their brand. We got to do fun activities like create our own flower arrangements, make wreaths and even paint our own pie plates (which by the way I quickly learned I was by far the worst painter in our group… it was bad y’all lol). That experience really opened my eyes to the hard work and detail that goes into every single piece they create and gave me such a greater appreciation for the brand. It truly was incredible to see how some of the artisans work and the process of creating just one glass or plate! That day really was so special and the passion their team has for their brand, especially their Creative Director Rebecca who was just such a special and positive person, made me love and want to work with them that much more!

SIMPLE SPRING TABLESCAPE

I am now the proud owner of MacKenzie-Childs table and glassware and even a baking dish or two! I went back and forth on whether I should get the Courtly Check design pieces for the table but ultimately decided to go with the all white Sweetbriar Collection for both dinnerware and glassware. These pictures of my simple spring tablescape do not do justice to how beautiful the detail is on the handmade, hand-glazed terra cotta dinnerware and how amazing these mouth-blown and hand-painted glasses are.

When picking out your dinnerware don’t be afraid to mix and match! At the event we got to see how they mix and matched different collections and put together combinations I never would have thought of that looked amazing! You can see the different collections on their website but I also loved the Flower Market designs, especially for spring (I got a teapot in that design)!

Now for the recipe!

I love a french toast casserole and this one I made with challah bread was a hit! I made this delicious French Toast Casserole in the Courtly Check Enamel 3 Qt. Casserole dish but it would work in a 9×13 pan too.

Challah French Toast Casserole

This challah french toast casserole is perfect for Easter brunch at home or anytime you're craving a sweet breakfast!
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 45 minutes
Course Breakfast
Servings 8 people

Ingredients

CASSEROLE

  • 1 loaf Challah Bread (preferably a day or two old) *could also use french bread or brioche but challah is delicious!
  • 8 eggs
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream half and half would be fine too
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tsps vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt *I did a pinch

TOPPING

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsps cold butter
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Butter a 9×13 casserole dish (or large casserole dish) and tear or cut bread into cubed pieces.
  • In a bowl mix together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon and salt. Pour mixture evenly onto bread making sure all pieces are covered. Cover with plastic and place in refrigerator overnight.
  • For topping: in small bowl mix brown sugar with cinnamon. Cut butter into small cubes and add to topping.
  • Take casserole out of refrigerator when ready to bake and sprinkle topping evenly on top.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes. It may need longer but I always like to check and add time if needed as opposed to overcooking!
  • Serve warm with your favorite maple syrup poured on top!

I hope you’ll give this recipe a try and let me know what you think! Whether you have a full tablescape of MacKenzie-Childs or just a baking dish or tea kettle, their unique pieces add such a fun and stylish touch to a room that you’ll have for years to come. I’ve gifted the roasting pan to my mom and plan on gifting a tea kettle to a family member for an upcoming celebration so I definitely recommend checking out their site for gift ideas too!
