Best Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

Homemade banana bread recipe that's been in the family for years now with chocolate chips! You'll definitely want to make this next time you have a few ripe bananas at home!
Course Baking
Servings 24 slices

Ingredients

  • 1-1/4 cup White Sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter softened (1 stick)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1-1/2 cups mashed, very ripe bananas (3-4)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease bottoms of 2 (8x4 inch) loaf pans. I use a no-stick cooking spray with flour that works great!
  • In a mixer or large bowl, mix together sugar and butter. Add eggs one at a time, mashed bananas, buttermilk and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl add flour, baking soda and salt and stir. Add to wet mixture a little at a time. Don't over mix! Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Pour batter into pans and bake for 45 minutes. Check before opening oven to see if it looks done. If not, add 5 minutes. Check with toothpick - if it comes out clean, it's ready!
  • Let cool for 10 minutes. Loosen edges and transfer to cooling rack and let sit for at least 30 minutes before slicing (I rarely last that long before digging in but it's better if it sits an hour before slicing)!
  • Enjoy!!

Notes

*You can definitely make this recipe WITHOUT the chocolate chips, but I think it's better with them! Also you can add as little or as many as you want.
